The challenge

At the stenter exit the fabric comes out with varying width and small lateral offsets from the machine center. The selvedge cutters must track these shifts in real time, keeping the cut always at the same distance from the fabric edges. Manual positioning is imprecise, slow and introduces systematic errors at every product changeover.

The solution

  • Two motorized carriages on a single transverse rail above the fabric, each with its own ball-screw and stepper motor.
  • Perfectly SYMMETRIC motion across the fabric centerline: when one carriage moves toward the center, the other mirrors it on the opposite side.
  • Circular blades whose cutting plane is PARALLEL to the fabric flow — clean continuous trim along the running fabric.
  • Absolute position measurement via MIRAN inductive sensors on dual ADS1115 (cubic calibration, ±0.1 mm).
  • Touch UI 800×480 with LVGL 8.x: height presets, guided calibration, alarm log, ADJ ZERO for center shift.
  • SCT-013 current sensor with 860 SPS burst sampling verifies blade rotation (safety bypass).
  • AT24C256 EEPROM with ×8 wear-leveling for persistent position, hardware IWDG 8 s watchdog.
